
Metal powder is produced by pretreating raw metal materials such as titanium alloy, nickel-based alloy and aluminum alloy to remove impurities, oxide layers and oversized particles. The processed materials are then sent to grinding and pulverizing equipment to be manufactured into micron-sized fine powder.
Finished powders for different application scenarios impose stringent requirements on particle size and purity, which necessitates fine screening operations conducted in a completely anaerobic environment. For instance, coarse powder of 45-106 μm applied in aerospace Electron Beam Melting (EBM), fine powder of 15-53 μm used for medical implant Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), ultrafine powder of 5-15 μm for microelectronic packaging, as well as impurity separation of recycled 3D printing powder, all have to be classified and screened by nitrogen-protected vibrating screens and airtight recovery screens.
The common screening range of metal powder falls within 5 μm to 150 μm, with core 3D printing powder mainly ranging from 15 μm to 45 μm.
Xianfeng recommends adopting airtight rotary vibrating screens for coarse screening of bulk raw materials. Featuring a fully enclosed structure, the equipment operates under slight positive pressure nitrogen atmosphere with oxygen content controlled below 100 ppm, efficiently eliminating large granular impurities.
For fine classification and recovery of high-value powder represented by 3D printing powder, airtight recovery screens are mandatory. Integrated with sealed screening, inert gas circulation and powder recovery functions, the screens can precisely regulate particle size distribution with an accuracy up to ±2 μm. Meanwhile, they effectively prevent powder oxidation deterioration and dust leakage, so as to guarantee powder activity and operational safety.
